Precious times

There have always been little moments of joy with Nate since he has been born, but they seem to happen more and more as he gets older. This morning, Jon got up with Nate and let me sleep for another hour (a moment of joy in and of itself), and when I got up, we all were hanging out in the living room. Jon and I were standing near a doorway, and Nate was walking toward us, but not really watching. He walked into Jon and nearly lost his balance, but he righted himself. Jon and I both laughed, and as Nate was walking away, he let out a big guffaw too, so he could be part of whatever it was we were laughing at. That made us laugh harder. It was just so cute.

Yesterday, Casey came over with her one-month-old boy, Bennett. Bennett was in his carseat on the floor, and Nate walked up to him. I said, "Be gentle," and Nate used one finger to poke Bennett in the forehead. It might have been a little rough, because Bennett made a funny face. Nate hasn't had much (any) exposure to newborns, but I think he knows what I mean when I say to be gentle; that's what I say when he touches flowers when we go on our walks. A moment later, Nate came back to Bennett, and I told him again to be gentle. This time he bent over and used one finger to stroke what little hair Bennett has--just like he touches flowers. :)

WHat a cute pic of Nate and the pumpkins. I can just see him at 20--mom, do I HAVE to see how tall I am? I just read down through some of the updates. What is Nate having PT for? I don't know how much you know about our son, Miles, but he didn't start walking until he was 2 and stopped talking from 1 yr - 2 1/2 yrs. He's been through all the therapies, evaluations, and people told us SOOOOO many different things. It can be pretty scary, but there is encouragement. Kids all develop so differently, as you will see once you have baby #2. They develop in their own times, and while Miles has some other things to overcome, he is doing so well, and I know it was because of the therapies he received starting so young. It's amazing how they can help, and don't feel bad about getting his speech checked out. He may be perfectly fine, but some extra help is always nice with your son! You may already know this, but I just wanted to encourage you as it can be alarming, and there are plenty of children who don't start talking until later, or Miles who has played an amazing game of catch up :)

Sara - I read through all of your archives on your blog, and I had already known about Miles' history. It's encouraging to see how well he is doing! Nate's PT started out for gross motor skills (late crawling/not walking); he started walking at 16 months but continued PT because his fine motor skills are significantly behind. Thank you for the encouragement! :)
