Beds and car seats

This weekend we took apart Nate's crib and set up his toddler bed. He was so excited about it... until we told him he had to sleep in it. :) So Jon sat in the room with Nate for an hour or so that first night, but the two nights since then have been a breeze (in part because we installed a bed rail the next day), AND he has still been taking a nap! The transition was easy, and Nate is proud of himself and his big boy bed.

It's about time for Lucy to switch to a bigger car seat, so I was planning on giving her Nate's and getting a new one for Nate. This is where I need some help: what "next step" car seats do you all use or have liked in the past? So far I've looked at the Britax Regent, which is huge but really safe; the Cosco Summit, which keeps him in a 5-point harness until 40 pounds and then switches to a seatbelt booster; and the Evenflo Generations, which is like the Summit. Nate weighs 32 pounds right now. What do you all recommend?

Not sure... I kept Angelina in her carseat until she was 35 pounds and then put her in a booster with a back on it. Now she uses a backless booster. But, Angelina only weighs 40 pounds right now. :) She is SO active! She eats like crazy too! haha! I wish I had that problem! ;) Not sure that this helps...

I too use a booster with a back on it for Miles(Graco), they have to be I think 30 something inches tall and 30 pounds, and there is no 5 point harness, just the belt. Any harness is only recommended to 40 lbs. then they have to use the seatbelt across the chest or through the back of the carseat, latch is only to 40lbs.! Good luck!

Yeah... I knew about the LATCH only going to 40 pounds, but some of the seats I've been looking at still keep them in 5-point harnesses for longer (even without LATCH). The Britax one is the 5-point until 80 pounds, but it's really pricey. Consumer Reports had decent things to say about the Cosco seat, so I'm still not sure.

I love Nate's new bed!

I don't have any experience with car seats myself (obviously), but I saw this report on Good Morning America: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Consumer/story?id=3673873&page=1

The comment section has some parents' thoughts as well as links to other informative websites within individual comments: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Consumer/comments?type=story&id=3673873

Update for everyone: I found the Safeguard GO (http://www.safeguardseat.com/go/index.htm) and like this one best. It allows the 5-point harness until 60 pounds and is also a backless booster.
