Furniture

We currently have a cheap-o, all-wires-and-other-junk-exposed, no-drawers Ikea computer desk in our kitchen. I'm looking for a nice-looking, decent quality desk or armoire to go in its place. It needs to be 40" wide or less and, ideally, have a file drawer, a place for our small printer, and drawers for pens and accessories. I'm looking at the $500-1000 price range.

Here are some of the not-quite-perfect ones I've found:

This one has lots of great storage and some cool features, but I'm not crazy about the louvered doors.

I love the closed look on this one (full info here), but it is too wide.

This one (full info here) is pretty close, though I'm not sure about the quality.

I liked this one a lot and almost got it, but I rethought it since it didn't have a place for the printer and also couldn't bear the weight of resting elbows on the desk part.

I have looked at Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, Ethan Allen (too expensive and not my style), Ballard Designs, and Home Decorators Collection.

Where do you shop for furniture like this?

Edit: I found something that will work very well for us. Yay! :)

I am loving all of these posts, Katie! :]

We got most of our furniture at Rooms To Go. www.roomstogo.com

We also got some of our furniture at Pier 1 Imports, and we got our eat in kitchen table & buffet at Target.

Surprisingly, Target furniture isn't too bad!!! I love all of it! :]

But, you could also look at antique stores! I LOVE antique stores. You can get some amazing things! I look at it as giving that furniture a 2nd chance. ;]

W and I buy most of our furniture from Pier 1, Cost Plus, or Z Gallerie.

The Z Gallerie on Pine Street has an upstairs section that has all the display pieces for more than half off. It is great if you're just looking for one piece and not an entire matching set of something.

When we were looking for a desk I also found some nice ones at JC Penny.

Thanks for the ideas, ladies! I forgot to mention that I'd also already looked at Z Gallerie and Pier 1--both online (so they might have more in stores). I thought about antiques, but I know they wouldn't be set up for computers (and they COULD be set up with some tinkering and tools, but I'm looking for the least amount of work possible). :)

I did find this one, which doesn't look half bad: http://www.ambfurniture.com/catalog/Dark-brown-finish-wood-computer-armoire-cabinet-p-19165.html
