Lucy

Besides the obligatory birthday post, you may have noticed a lack of "look how cute Lucy is being" posts. That's because there's been a lack of Lucy being cute. That is only partially a joke; she is still cute, but it's greatly overshadowed by some extreme... what shall I call it? Irritability. Meltdown over the slightest thing or imagined thing (like thinking I was about to reach for the wrong kind of ketchup). Picky attitude about every possible thing (items of clothing, types of food, where items need to be placed on the table or placemat). I'm really not exaggerating when I say crying/fussiness takes up 80-90% of the day.

This past week to 10 days has been much better. It might be because Discipline Nazi-- a.k.a. Mimi--was here for a week and really backed me up and gave renewed vigor to the discipline-right-away-on-the-first-offense bandwagon I knew I should be on but had strayed from a bit. (My justification is that since EVERY. SINGLE. THING had turned into a battle, I had started to let some "minor" things go so I could keep some semblance of sanity. But of course we all know that attitude just causes more suffering in the long run.)

So, in summary, things have been pretty terrible-ish with Lucy the past month, but things are looking back up right now and I'm hopeful they stay that way. I really hope the terrible attitude thing doesn't stay for several more years, which I hear is a possibility. If it looks like that's going to happen, I think Mimi will just have to come once a month for a week to relieve me and encourage me and threaten Lucy. :)

Discipline Nazi, checking in! Too funny, but sadly true.
Glad things are looking better. And praise God your consistency is paying off. Praying for you.

These times are so hard. But I'm sure you will listen to the Dicipline Nazi and keep up your catching the first offense. I know she is adorable and will get over this and I hope soon. L&K N

Oh Katie! I am right there with you! Eli is my challenging one and you are so right, sticking to your guns the first time they try to pull something is a must. I will say Eli is 3.5 now and even my dad was commenting how mellow he has gotten since just Christmas. Put in the hard work now before the issues along with them get bigger. That strong spirit is such a good thing, it just looks bad on a toddler! At least you know she won't be swayed by a crowd when she's a teen! P.S. LOVE YOUR ROOM!!!
