All by myself

My mom went back home today, and I'm definitely wondering if I can do this mom-of-two thing by myself... Nate has been particularly challenging this past week, as he realizes the new creature in the house isn't leaving and as he gets more and more frustrated not being able to express himself. A couple of his therapists and I talked this week about implementing a picture system for communication (essentially having a board of pictures of different objects like his water cup, favorite video, food, milk, etc., and if he wants one of them he has to go get the picture and bring it to me, then I say the word and immediately get him what he has asked for), and I think that will help a lot with the meltdowns we've been experiencing. I know he wants to be able to communicate, so anything we can do to help him along will be good.

So far, I'm doing wonderfully at mothering two children by myself--it has been three whole hours (and either Nate or Lucy has been asleep the whole time)!

How is Lucy sleeping? Does she wake often? Every few hours?

Lucy is sleeping pretty well! For the past few nights, she has slept from about 9:30 to 2:00, then she's up again around 5:00. So I just have to get up twice. It'll be nice when it changes to once!

That's great!! :) That is how Angelina was. She still gets up in the middle of the night sometimes, and she is almost 5 years old!! Zoe... She got my sleeping gene. LOL. Down at 8:30/9pm and up between 8-10am. :) I REALLY got lucky! :) Lucy sounds like a good sleeper, though!

It IS a sad day when grandma leaves. I had/have moments of the same "Can I do this?" feelings. I just decided to give myself a whole lot of grace for the adjustment period. So our meals aren't perfectly balanced (lunchables anyone?)and we're watching a few extra movies right now- worse things have happened and I know we'll be back to "normal" soon.
I am quite confident that you are doing a wonderful job loving Nate and Lucy. Enjoy the ride! :)

Lucy is just darling :-) I'm so glad to hear about the picture communication for Nate - I'm sure he will take to it as he has to signing. It's called PECS ( Picture Exchange Communication System ) if you want to read about it on the Internet. Love and hugs - Carolyn

I too hear ya about going it alone!! My husband is going out of town Monday and doesn't get home until Saturday afternoon. Ugh! It's tough, but we get through it. :) You're a great mommy, and I am *sure* you'll be fine!!

Carolyn - Oh yes, that's right--PECS. I knew there was a 4-letter acronym for it. :)
