Bedroom decorating

I've been thinking about making my first quilt. I've been dreaming of different fabric combinations and thinking that the quilt should go on our bed, and I will redo our bedroom around it. (I've never decorated our bedroom in this house; it's the last room to be addressed! But I was inspired recently by friends.) I think the quilt will be quite busy/crazy/happy, and then I'll make the rest of the room soft and calm. Here are the 12 fabrics for the quilt (mostly reds, greens, teals, and blues, with some yellow. Most from Heather Bailey, and one each from Valori Wells, Anna Griffin, and Anna Maria Horner):

And the colors I'm going to sample for the walls:

Glidden's Barely Jade
Behr's April Mist, Tide Pools, or premium plus Frosted Jade

I'm hoping for a muted teal/bluish grey/jade. Those colors might end up being completely not what I want, but that's where I'm starting.

And the different styles of chandeliers/lights I would love to try if Jon can stand to part with the ceiling fan:

I'm also going to try rearranging the furniture and put the bed up against a different wall. I already have 4 panels of white curtains I will put up behind the bed (like Sara and others have done--except there really is an unused window/sliding door where mine will go. Yay--I get to take down those vertical blinds!).

I've ordered some of the fabrics for the quilt. I'm waiting for a bit more Paypal money before I order the rest, and then I will get started!

Cute, Cute and triple CUTE!!! Oh my gosh, your bedroom will be the envy of every woman in the world!

Oh, and I've thought the same thing about a cute chandelier but I don't even ask because I already know what my wonderful, practical husband will say: "Why would we get rid of a perfectly good ceiling fan and buy something else to replace it?!" Pragmatism rears it's ugly head!!! :0)

I love the combos of the fabrics--I don't really like quilts too much, but I do think it would be soooo fun just to come up with the combos!! It will look great, Katie!!

Fun! Quilts are great. Easy to make until you make the dreaded quilt sandwich! ahhhh! But they turn out so fun! :)

LOVE the fabrics! My whole house basically is done in Behr April Mist, I love it, very easy to live with. My vote on Chandeliers to go with the quilt is the shell one, I think it totally works with the shabby chic cozy vibe you are going for. Just save it for a bithday or mother's day present, then Jon can't say much!

Ricci - How funny I picked one of your colors! I'll definitely try that one.

And I'd been leaning toward that capiz shell light, too. I think the one I put in the picture is from Ikea--not too expensive!

Oh another thought. If you want to room to not be maybe too country with a traditional quilt you could do horizontal stripes of fabric instead of squares, change it up a bit but still get to use all the fun fabrics...just a thought!

Yeah I should include that the quilt I'm thinking about doing probably won't turn out too country. At least it won't have hearts, teddy bears, cabins, or anything like that. I was probably going to do this quilt (but in my own fabrics): http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HRqH6EIhPfw/SixSHu5EakI/AAAAAAAADqA/fbeft_p0x4k/s1600-h/assemble30.jpg

but also like the idea of stripes!

Katie--I did the girls' room in one shade lighter than April Mist--I did April Mist first, but it was too "grown up" for the room (too much gray, i think)--so i went the shade up on the card, and it's perfect--it's brighter. Just so you could compare. I've also used contemplation, and love it--not quite as green.

I've been thinking that yes, the room might turn out looking a bit country with a quilt as the centerpiece, but I guess that just means I'm a little bit country myself! And that's OK with me. Other rooms in my house have the "sophisticated" vibe (like the b&w wallpaper bathroom), so I'm OK going a bit traditional with the bedroom. :)

LOVE the fabrics and definitely the shell chandelier. We have a quilt on our bed (not made by me:) and I love it... there is a ton of pottery barns that I love and I don't think they are to country; check them out for inspiration:). Anyway LOVE it can't wait to see end result:). The only thing about switching to a quilt for us was that we desperately missed our duvet so I just threw on a white duvet cover and it goes with the quilt. Have Fun!

Just looked up April Mist... really like it!! very posh:) We did our bedroom in silver sage from restoration (a bit played out now but I still LOVE it and want to lick the walls everytime I see it:) it makes me happy!) Anyway I think the colors you're leaning toward are going to be beautiful!

Country, schmountry! I agree that quilts are not always country-fied and can be very pottery-barn/chic (which yours obviously will be because everything you make is super-duper chic). Can't wait to see it!
